This week’s Victorian reservoir levels are showing a mixed picture across the Ballarat and other lakes, with several storages sitting well below capacity while others remain in excellent condition.

Spring is finally starting to show itself and the freshwater scene is starting to wake up! With the warmer weather coming through, there’s plenty of options for anglers chasing trout, redfin and natives.

 

🐟 MOORABOOL

 

The Moorabool is worth a look for the trout anglers. With spring starting to kick in, expect the trout to become more active. Look for deeper pools, moving water and shaded sections.

 

🎣 GONG GONG

 

Gong Gong is another one worth having a crack at. Trout are the main target, with redfin and other species also available. Small lures, spinners and bait are all worth a throw.

🚫 WILSON RESERVOIR

 

Currently closed to fishing, so don't waste a trip until restrictions change.

 

🎣 COSGROVE

 

Cosgrove is worth keeping on the radar for trout. As the water starts warming, work the edges and shallower areas, especially early and late in the day.

 

🚫 BEALES RESERVOIR

🎣 NEWLYN RESERVOIR

 

Newlyn is starting to look interesting with brown trout and redfin on the menu. Spring is a great time to start putting some time into the edges and structure.

 

🔥 LAKE EILDON

 

Eildon is where things get really interesting!

 

With Murray cod, yellowbelly, redfin and trout all on offer, there’s plenty of reasons to get the boat out.

 

The natives will become increasingly active as the water warms, so it's a great time to start throwing the lures around structure, timber and rocky areas.

 

🔥 CAIRN CURRAN

 

Cairn Curran is another one we're keeping a close eye on as spring arrives.

 

Yellowbelly are starting to show, with redfin, trout and cod also available.

 

As those water temperatures climb, the native fishing should only get better.
